Design of Methadone Clinics

mark

I'm looking for web resources on the design of methadone treatment clinics. site stratagies, layouts, briefs, schedules of accomodation etc.

i've done searches that have thrown up a couple of references, but was wondering if anyone here has experience with this type of design.

it's temporary accomodation for a 12 month peroid while the current location is refurbished. it will be attached to a primary health care facility in an urban location.

the project isn't yet confirmed, and i will have a meeting with the head of the current facility, but i'm just trying to get an idea of what's required so i'm not going in blind.

your best bet is to get hooked on H and then go thru a rehab and then on to the clinic. nothing beats first hand experience.

mark, make sure your client (or potential one) has all zoning in place for location - done - not just in the works - specifically allowed!

had a deal in my city where the local council almost recanted their initial approvals due to "community minded" concerns. Some members with big ones, stuck to their correct initial approvals and told the community to come back to them and bitch if there were big problems. Of course, all has been fine so nothing ot complain about.

Don't really think anything special really required for the facility, security a big issue like usual. Maybe some health care architects could give some more specifics.

yeah, i went down to the current facility this morning and got a tour. the methadone clinic is only part of the brief, but it turns out to be less complicated than i imagined. the number of clients being treated is small, and the clinic only operates for 90 minutes in the evening after the rest of the facility is closed. it's literally a secure room with a hatch and an isolated wc, with a plastered ceiling and loads of mirrors so the nurses can see clients providing a urine sample (and not pulling a pre-made sample from their jackets).

alphanumericcha - the zoning is fine. local residents will have objections, but the existing clinic is literally around the corner, so it may not be a huge issue. planning will be done in two parts so objections to the treatment clinic won't hold up the rest of the health care clinic.

bryan - thanks for the link. the scale of that project is quite different to what i'm looking at, but the principals are useful to read.
