Its a good deal, at a way better price then a Mac, or a Dell, but alucidwake is right about saving money on ram. I bought the same pc it works great...and I use Rhino and maxwell....no problems.
This has been said to be a sweet combo but i have found that there is a possibility to run XP on this machine, here but with ram handling on demand redrawing the model and Processor speed handling actual renderings, from a mere 2 gigs of RAM you can use part of your hard drive to be used as RAM also making almost the double of your actual physical memory. so i say buy two gigs and use two gigs of your hard drive and wait for memory to go down, use open GL for 3D max and have a wonderful time in Z space.

HP dv9700t series laptops -- any thoughts?
i'm thinking of buying this bad-boy for a small fortune - $1600.
with.....
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB
4 gb ram
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
and 250 hardrive.
i need with for 3d stuff (max, rhino, etc), graphics/photoshoping, audio/video, etc....
the only drawback seems to be the fact that i can't downgrade it to xp when i purchase it.
what do y'all fink....?
get the least amount of ram possible and upgrade by yourself, it'll save you a few hundred i'm guessing and its easy

Get it...
I am surprised that it is 1600$. This year there was slurry of laptop deals...I got my gf one with 512 of ram and a core2duo ..and it cost 400$
Of course the graphics card isnt 512...but are you sure you find soemthign cheaper?

You can definitly find something cheaper, but like saying goes you get what you pay for.
1600 is a good price compared to 2900 + on a mac or dell (which gives you a lower spec comnputer
Wait. new processors coming soon.

duly noted,
...and I am waiting on the quadcores to make there way into laptops before i buy another.
thanks for the advice, y'all.
as i am custom building this laptop, i think the difference in high-specing ram and doing it yourself is pretty small.
...does anyone know how good the 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS card is.... esp when compared to the intel graphics cards...
