So I'm a first year student in a county college majoring in Communications (I'm really not for it, also currently in my second semester). I really, really want to go into Architecture but due to a couple minor family issues and mostly financial issues, I might have to wait a good 2 years or so to go to the school I have in mind (NJIT).
The BA arch program in NJIT is the typical 5 year program. So even if I do 2 years at my county college, if I transfer to the arch program, I'd still have to do the 5 years, which I don't mind at all. I'm in no rush to finish school.
What I need is advice as to how can I make these 2 years of benefit to me by gaining skills that will help me when I do transfer to architecture. My college doesn't offer any type of arch course or anything of the sort, so I'm thinking what if I did an AS in graphic design in the mean time? I know there is some sort of relationship between graphic design and architectural design, like how architects use graphic design as a tool to represent their ideas/drafts, right?
But because most of everyone here is currently in the field, I want to know, in your own opinion, considering all that I've mentioned, would this be the way to go?
