When importing from acad 2008 to 3ds max 9, after building the 3d model in acad, the normals come in to 3ds screwed up (some are flipped 90 degrees randomly, others 45...) and materials have to be face mapped to show up. Anyone know...is there a workaround for this without having to recreate the objects in acad and reimport?
acad to 3dsmax issue
Hi,
When importing from acad 2008 to 3ds max 9, after building the 3d model in acad, the normals come in to 3ds screwed up (some are flipped 90 degrees randomly, others 45...) and materials have to be face mapped to show up. Anyone know...is there a workaround for this without having to recreate the objects in acad and reimport?
Thanks.

make all the materials 2 sided. If that doens't work, then you'll have to recreate the faces in Max.
3DS files usually work much better for consistency, but are harder to manage.
Most likely, the problems are were you performed some boolean operations...?
also make sure when you import the model that you check the "2-sided" box on the first menu.
It's exactly the same problem when you import sketchup models. Make sure you models are built in layers as well.
chk your normals always
