Its best if you link the file into Max. But be careful. There are over 3000 layers. Its kind of annoying, but if you delete what you don't need and save it as another file, its manageable. Also, its somewhat obvious, but you will probably want to clean up the layers. One last thing. All of the buildings are surfaces (not solids). I know, I know........who the hell does that? I'm just the messenger. Good luck.
Ok. I looked at the link and unfortunately it doesn't lead you directly to the model, but it is in there. So follow these steps:
1. go to http://www.cben.net/
2. select: "3-d Models" on the left hand column
3. select: "3-d Miscellaneous"
4. go to the bottom of the page where it says "Result Pages" and
keep pushing "[Next]" until you get to the end.
5. once you get to the last page, you have to select number "37"
6. NYC_3D.zip is a dwg file, so it will work fine with Rhino. (NYC4.zip)
is a pretty crappy MAX model of lower Manhattan/Financial District
intended for the World Trade Center (due to the initial camera
views"
Let me know if there are any problems with finding it.
or you can type "nyc" in the DWG search box (beta) on the left side of the page (below all the categories)...it's the 5th from the top in the search results box...
try to refresh the page and search again if nothing shows up...it was buggy a couple of times when i was using the search
