There is a widening gap between Europe and the US, not only political but also cultural. Although both still influence each other, Europeans and Americans have a hard to understanding each other these days.
Without going into the political reasons for this (there are other topics for that), I want to know what you think is the influence on this in architecture. Is Architecture still a reflection of its local culture or has it become such a global profession / art / ... that it will not be affected by this broadening divergence. Arguments for the latter are the recent building projects for western architects in Beijing and the fact that corporate culture is less affected by patriotism in architecture (which can be refuted). Arguments for the former are history itself, but perhaps also the recent problems European architects encountered with some of their projects in the US (just throwing a bone here).

Please discuss ...
The pursuit of the capitalist ideal has pushed america to the corporate dogs. We will be sure to follow, abeit slower.
There is lots to say on this subject especially with regard to building procurement, and the architecture that is subsequently constructed.
Another time though...
