Herzog & de Meuron = deaf center because of subtleties

Bjork = gaudi because of unique vision
Avalanches = mvrdv for crazy fun
Huey lewis & news = libeskind for seeming very dated very quickly

Jihnny cash = that arizona architect with trash can whose name I can't think of even though it was the first one to come to mind when I started this thread...argh that's frustrating toi forget something
But why stop at musicians? So many other characters come to mund during an exercise like this such as...michel gondry, hedi slimane, bjorn borg, tyler brule, bill belichick, barack obama, hugh hefner and any number of barnyard animals or robots.
Damn it...that's the name I was trying to think of...

Blythe = puddles because they are both doll-like and display a surprising level of ennui despite their fortunate circumstances of their velvety rich environments...ooh la la
Sorry if my listing sucks...ikm posting off the top of my head right now and haven't really thought this threw..
I can't think for the life of me who ando would be, probably something cold, harmonic, simple and beautiful. Sigur Ros and Hammock are way too complex though.
lb asked who the lead singer (r.i.p.) of quiet riot would be in the news item about dubrow's death. i'm guessing hernan: borrowed stylings, one-hit wonder, flashy, without any real content.
well since the quiet riot song was actually a slade song. which architect would be slade? which was awesome by the way! roxy music was quite baroque and nothing like mies.
quiet riot is that guy that that big corporate firm you once worked for hired as a principle or project manager. he probably did a bunch of stuff once a while back, now he works here. you know the guy, sometimes wears a sweater. you'll be working with him on a project. everyone's excited cause he may bring in some clients. ..just look at that rolodex!
i always had a lot of respect for the lead singer of quiet riot cause he pretty much was completely bald by the mid eighties which had to have been just a slap in the face when you've just 'made it' as a hair metal band. near the end though he got some pretty snazzy wigs though.. rest in peace, dude.
rem= chicago transit authority
gehry=gary puckett and the union gap
eisenman=tony orlando and dawn
zaha=cher
renzo=blood sweat and tears
liebkind=the brooklyn bridge
robert stern=the association
Bruce Goff = Captain Beefheart
HH Richardson = Aaron Copland
Robert irwin = John Cage
Wolf Prix = Jimi Hendrix (not mine, but he made the comparison in a lecture once)
George Hargreaves = David Hasselhoff
architects=musicians
john portman = DJ Funk?
if paolo soleri is phish, than will bruder is definitely the grateful dead.
although i'd say it's probably the other way around.
But who's Archigram?
They always used to say that
Archigram = Beatles
but that's lazy.
I like this thread. If I knew an architects' practice that equated to [url=
Girls Aloud I'd have sent my CV in by now.... mmmm.... Cheryl....
(oops... sorry... did I just lower the tone?)
new york five = backstreet boys
John Denver= Rocky Mountain High
John Denver did attend college as an architecture student....before he became the flying bird man.

Mies = Roxy Music?
David Childs = Hootie and the Blowfish.
Both somehow made it big, but, nonetheless, remain douchebags.
roxy music is too passionate for mies. i was thinking more cool/cold and structured: phillip glass?
woodie guthrie = peter behrens
but that would make mies, corb, and gropius = guthrie followers
maybe dylan, arlo, and seeger?
or maybe they'd be members of the band: robertson et al...
Ant Farm=13th Floor Elevators
nice points on scarpa mdler, i think i'm gonna listen to some pixes now
no Ando fan here? damn.,,
I can't think for the life of me who ando would be, probably something cold, harmonic, simple and beautiful. Sigur Ros and Hammock are way too complex though.
ando is David Kilgour, if David Kilgour were famous.

i want to say yo la tengo or the minutemen for herman hertzberger.
working up ideas for talking heads, the vaselines and beat happening
and, someone less pivotal than fugazi for lacaton + vassal, but similar...?
talking heads should probably be some so-wonky-they're-cool firm like kennedy/violich or ds+r.
Rem and Byrne are kinda separated at birth --
so I (still) say OMA for the Talking Heads
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far better
(never really thought of k/v as wonky or cool)
the michael graves / nora jones comparison ruined her for me
greg lynn = orbital
som = u2
neil denari = crystal method
andrew maynard = david gray
bart prince = greg brown
richard meier = brittany spears
there is no way mayne is dylan. that's a tough one. i will have to think about that one. dylan deserves better.
for now i would say morphosis in the 90's = mtv in the 80's or maybe bowie+mick jagger
i would sooner say rotundi = dylan but i dont think that's right either
more like dylan = corb or kahn
tshumi = dj shadow
holl = morton feldman
REM = REM
and i second FLW = Elvis
so who is madonna?
michael jackson?
radiohead?!?
this is fun but i'm done
Matched based on fashion sense ( 50% ) and likelihood of listening to the music while soaking in a hot tub..
michael graves = Kenny G
zaha = tina turner
I will work for the architect equivalent of bob marley !
no real dealing with the hi-tech folks --
and frankly, Piano is my Pink Floyd
technical, electronic, and sublime
Foster and Rogers?
and Neil Denari is SO Social Distortion
(and he would love it!)
rem= chicago transit authority
gehry=gary puckett and the union gap
eisenman=tony orlando and dawn
zaha=cher
renzo=blood sweat and tears
liebkind=the brooklyn bridge
robert stern=the association
oh, i get it...vado as in io va
ora capito
now it makes sense
voglio dire, "io vado"
scusa mi
Eliel Saarinen = the Fifth Dimension
And, of course, Eliel = Xtina, Eero = Britney
Bruce Goff = Captain Beefheart
HH Richardson = Aaron Copland
Robert irwin = John Cage
Wolf Prix = Jimi Hendrix (not mine, but he made the comparison in a lecture once)
George Hargreaves = David Hasselhoff
old morphosis (pre-split): mayne, rotondi, was clark stevens there yet? = crosby stills nash.
Koolhaas = Pavement
pink floyd =mies. Welcome to the Machine.
calatrava = carlos santana
murphy jhan = miria cary
when ever i look at the case study houses, i think of the following
eames = getz/gilberto
neutra = jobim
koenig = brazil '66
eisenman is more akin to terry riley or stockhausen. i like steve reich waaay to much for him to be associated w/ petey e.
rossi = phillip glass
olgiati = the orb
zumthor is definitely ricardo villalobos
sverre fehn = pete seeger
francois roche = aphex
SHoP = autechre (especially dunescape)
sanaa = hawtin
foster = boards of canada
the new portishead is alternately brilliant and horrible. i'd pick foster for them.
"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture."
(alternately attributed to Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, David's Bowie and Byrne, etc ...)
Ando = Snoop Dogg
...pimp
I.M. Pei = Jin
kanye = libeskind
overrated and always whining about how he never gets respect. both desire to be in the other's field... and short.
Michel Rojkind = Alex Syntek y la Gente Normal (he actually use to play there)
