Hi so it has always been my dream to be an architect. When I applied for my bachelors in architecture I only got accepted to out of state schools (Im from VA). My dad did not want me attending an out of state school so I decided to decline the offers. Thus I am currently a rising senior at Virginia Tech majoring in Environmental Policy and Planning. I am now looking to pursue my graduate degree in architecture. I am starting to look into putting my portfolio together. I have been slowly compiling various art works (mostly drawings and pastel paintings) since high school. After reading through many posts on this website I am starting to doubt myself and if these will be enough. I have two 3D models of houses I have designed myself but I do not have any renderings of these just the actual models and the pictures of them. (the models have been made from balsa wood), i designed them first in AutoCAD. I have basic plans for both but nothing fancy. Can anyone provide me with any advice? Thank you soo much
Also I have no clue what program to use to actually design the portfolio itself. any ideas? Thanks for any help you may provide
I had six paintings, three sculptures, and a bunch of furniture in my portfolio, and I got in to five of my eight schools, two with substantial funding and one with a full scholarship. Soif it is good work, I'd say stop worrying.
Why are you freaking out? Applications for MArchs are usually due at the end of the year, around mid-December. You have lots of time. There are tons of portfolio threads here - go do a little research project on them - figure out how best to translate what you've done into a presentable package, then make a pdf and post it online for critique. You can use any software you want to make your portfolio. If you have access to Photoshop or InDesign, those are the standard. Otherwise, you can do it in Word or Publisher or w/e software you feel most comfortable with when manipulating text and images. Whatever you use should be able to export to pdf.
As for your lack of 'fancy work', all you need to show are examples of your thinking process and finished projects. You'll get into the schools that see promise in what you're about.
