Mine only got 55, which seems low, and I could see their results did not include the new organic grocery store or half the restaurants in Broad Ripple. Nonetheless, let's have some competition!
42, but that's high. it's counting things that no one walks to...yeah, I'll cross the freeway and walk 3 miles down a road with no sidewalks to get to a barnes & noble.
My former office in the Golden Triangle in downtown DC scored 100.
The job before that was in Tyson's Corner. It scored a 74, but I think the score may be flawed, because there are never any pedestrians in Tyson's Corner.
My childhood home: 62
My mother's home in the exurbs: 38
Although i have problems with their reasoning, because they don't have a bunch of grocery stores etc that are in my neighborhood..
If these were included it would be much higher...
i typed in my office's address and it's counting some of the law firms located in my building as nearby libraries??
hmm. now, i don't doubt they have 'libraries' of their own... but, .. i doubt i'd be able to walk in and ask where books on fly fishing and basketweaving were located.. (i could always try, though)
In general the direction of the scores seems right.
But: When I compare the places in Germany I have lived in, all of which were in very walkable neighborhoods, with my apartment in LA it seems odd that LA locations score better.
One address right in a historic town center scored lower than my LA residential neighborhood. No way that is correct. In LA I walk once a week where as in Germany I walked everything.
ah. i mean, i'm not against walking per se. but let's face it, walking takes effort, and effort (physical exertion) is not something i partake in if i have a choice.
65 in a very pleasant neighborhood for walking. got a great path that loops round the lake, a trail by the creek and at least one hill to climb. What more do you need
DCA,
I looked up the second home address on Fuller Rd. in St. Michaels - the one with the wonderful permanent TFR (temporary flight restriction).
On Observatory Circle the score is 77 (which, judging from the aerial, looks completely un-walkable). This is the one with the fabled blurred Google Earth image.
88 in North-Central Chicago (Lincoln Sq)... which is odd, though, because they listed a bunch of crap non-existant places (some alternative bookstore I've never heard of?! And a "Healing Arts" something or other listed under Movie Theaters?) but completely ignored the school of Folk Music (and performance space) that is my next-door-neighboor, the movie theater that is 3 doors down, and the 2 book stores that are another few doors down from that.
Kind of weird. If my neighborhood isn't 100, nothing should be. I even have a full-service grocery store, huge park with public pool-house, library, and about 8 different pharmacies and banks all in a 3-block radius of my house. Harrumph.
@ DCA
Not spooky,
I imagine many have gone their..
I use to live behind it, int he old student ghetto.
Now it is a big new development of 6 storied faux French Quarter esque apartments.
Yeah! progress.
Walkscore: because I know we love competition!

89
85, bay-bee!
Ooh fun. I think we've talked about this before but a little friendly competition will get my mind moving.
I got a 91!!!
woah... my office, on the other hand: 98.
And since I already live there most of the time....
er, wait. I walk to work. Now I'm confused.
how the heck did i only get an 86 when i live on a pedestrian court with no street and i can walk to EVERYTHING?!
42, but that's high. it's counting things that no one walks to...yeah, I'll cross the freeway and walk 3 miles down a road with no sidewalks to get to a barnes & noble.

the place where I am going for Thanksgiving dinner gets a paltry 34
65...
Check it here.

work, however, gets me a 95.
I agree manamana: I think it uses the Oregon Trail game's "ford the river" option in some instances.
nam: I've been to the Krispy Kreme in your neighborhood. Spooky or cool?
Eek! My partner's house, where I now sit, gets 31!!!! I'm so glad we didn't end up buying the house in this neighborhood!
34?? that's the worst you can do?
my office (the boss's house) got a 20. that's why i bring my lunch EVERYDAY.
and the home of my youth? scored a 14. for real.
now though, where i live scored a 71.
it would be cool if you could change the parameters to generate a bikescore, opening up to a larger radius and taking into account topography.
98 for my office in the loop
88 for my apartment now on the near NW side of Chicago
78 for my old apartment on the near south side of Chicago
15 for my parents house in Olathe, Kansas
bush's crawford ranch has a walk score of zero
home 78 office 85 but still why does it feel more like ~60???
home = 95
suck it!!
54
interesting "how it doesn't work" section
85 at the office in downtown boulder
11 at the home we rent outside of town
i can't wait to move back to a town - those coyotes are scary
80! I'm surprised. It's LA, and nobody walks in...
The house I grew up in gets a 31. And even then, I would go to most of the places on the list.
i typed in my office's address and it's counting some of the law firms located in my building as nearby libraries??
hmm. now, i don't doubt they have 'libraries' of their own... but, .. i doubt i'd be able to walk in and ask where books on fly fishing and basketweaving were located.. (i could always try, though)
91, although i only walk to and from school in any regular day
75, i think that is probably about as good as you can hope to do in florida...
where I work: 97
where I live: 85
where I grew up: 6
my parent's cottage in northern MI... 0
but I do more walking there than just about anywhere else.
bummer, my current location doesn't work with their map. some earlier locations...
previous home = 71
previous employer = 65
born & raised = 17
when i lived in the big city...
homes = 95 & 89
work = 95
80

My Philly house was 91. I've moved to half.
sigh
right now - 85
(though i discredit many things listed, the boarded up bodega shouldn't count as a grocery store)
in college - 75
where i was raised - 3 ha!
my house where i grew up scored a 53, but was infinitely more walkable than my current house which scored an 83.
who would ever want to walk anywhere anyway?
le bossman
how true: there's a reason I moved to LA.
Home - 72
Work - 98
Dick Cheney's house - 0
ah. i mean, i'm not against walking per se. but let's face it, walking takes effort, and effort (physical exertion) is not something i partake in if i have a choice.
Cool. My apt in Philly is 98 and work is 97. I guess it makes sense since I walk to work.
I don't buy that, mleitner. The Observatory has to be within two miles of Dupon Circle, the Cathedral, and the restaurants on Macomb Street...
82 in auto-dominated Louse Angeles.
65 in a very pleasant neighborhood for walking. got a great path that loops round the lake, a trail by the creek and at least one hill to climb. What more do you need
home 68
work 100!

fun!
i live in a 93
i work in a 98
i'm with you myriam. i don't understand it. 'what CAN'T i walk to' is what i'm thinking?
besides work, that is, since it's in the f@*#in' industrial park...
