I am in the process of getting my application things done. (purpose letter, letter of recommendations, portfolio)
I'm still looking around for schools within the country.
I have a bachelors in business. My GPA is not that great (2.0-3.0) And I have 4 years of architectural experience. I'm planning to have good letter of rec/purpose letter/ and portfolio.
I never took the GRE, not really planning to. But I am looking for an accredited Grad. School that I might have possibilities of getting in without the GRE's.
So far my list is:
Pratt, Cal Poly Pomona, SCI-Arc.
Any Suggestions/Recommendations. All will be appreciated. Thanks.
If you want to qualify for additional funding, it may be prudent to take the GREs. Some schools require it in order to become a T.A. Your score doesn't really matter, though. You can even get to take it for free if you are a student of "independent means" and on a limited income.
I suggest you take the GRE so that it opens up your grad school options. You don't want to limit your options because of a meaningless exam that takes 4 hours of your Saturday morning.
If you do a search (go to main discussion page, you'll see the search box at the bottom) on previous threads for GRE information, you'll read many stories of people getting into top grad schools barely breaking 900 points. I think you'll be fine.
Sorry Joanna, but I don't think you are right. I got into Sci Arc and got fellowship offers from two other schools, so I think I probably could have been quite competitive for columbia. They just didn't bother to review the application because I didn't have GRE scores -- the College Board sent them to the Graduate school of Arts and Sciences instead.
I'm sure it's not consistent, but you could have problems at some places if you don't have scores. So you should probably call and ask as soon as you think they have your other materials.
Even the schools that require GREs don't really care about the scores. A stellar score might lift up some eyebrows by the admissions committee but nothing else. It's all about your portfolio, letters of intent, recommendations, and GPA (all in that order).

Graduate School without the GRE's
Hello All,

RISD doesn't require GRE's
I thought Cal Poly Pomona and Sci-Arc required GREs?

BAC? not sure if they're a MArchI or a MArchII though.
I suggest you take the GRE so that it opens up your grad school options. You don't want to limit your options because of a meaningless exam that takes 4 hours of your Saturday morning.
wash u?
Columbia never considered my application because they didn't get my GRE scores.
you think even a horrible score will help?
cranbrook
The score will not make or break your admission. Well rounded experience and a portfolio will. It will help with your funding opportunities.

cranbrook's not accredited
The BAC is MArch I and they do not require GREs.

if you already have 1 accreditated degree you should be fine....
mespellrong, you didn't take the GRE either? So you got into sciarc, may I ask which other two schools you applied for?
Pomona does NOT require GRE
UNM and UNC Charlotte as well
