I feel ya, lately my machine has been slowing down everytime I introduce hatching of any sort. Just freezes as I attempt to pan, poor thing. It should probably get restarted once this year, I've just been trying to avoid the print manager kicking in so that I have to log every print I make, which is a trade off I will make
how large of a file are you working with? Acad gets very slow as you approach the max line count.... Can't remember what it is or precisely how its measured but I reached it on one project and it was misery (easily possibly if you work in 3d and do stupid things like matrix-copy detailed columns in a huge complex of warehouses, like I did once. There's lots of ways around it, but we'll need more details on your file to suggest which way is best. Scene management through refs can be a good thing.
It's not the speed of the program, it's my own f-----in' hand-eye coordination drafting speed. Just too friggin slow. I was thinking amphetamines might provide a short-term solution. It would be nice if I could just download the program to my head.
More RAM never hurts, and about once a year, a complete re-format of the HD, re-installation of Windoze, and all your apps will do wonders to speed up your machine. If you're having trouble zooming and panning, you may also want to look into a graphics card upgrade.
Also, check your machine for spyware, adware, and other malware. At my last job, one of the partners couldn't figure out why his brand-new computer was so sluggish. Turns out his Outlook inbox had about 400+ spam emails in it, and the computer was infected with every type of spyware and adware in the book. Certain people shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a computer, but that's a rant for another day.
the frantic mashing of the space bar, repeated abuse of the esc key, and who could forget the muttering of expletives when you accidentally hit that "convenient" f1 key
Revit is boring... i write all my posts while i save this 80meg file to central
It might be better if you're a slower drafter, you can learn more while drawing. At least that's been, experience when drawing details. "Every line means something"
Also has to agrea I uses ver14. but that's becaurse it's mine and I could not afford to update --- but then what, all those nice AutoLisp , the smart recurive tests to see if a particular new function will work before you program it the boring way, --- still maybe Ver14 will not work on my next computer ; that day I guess I retire and claim my dinusaur rights.
i can't jerk off with my left hand to save my life, but i can hammer on a keyboard with the best of them. if you want to be fast with AutoCAD get rid off all the icons and learn the keyboard commands - you will get fast enough that you will find it necessary to waste time on the internet just to stay sane. BTW, it is soooo painful to watch someone pump cad with using icons.
The very old school people at my job refuse to use the scroll wheel on the mouse for zooming, and somehow missed the z+w command, so you see them click the zoom window box on the toolbar, pick the window, mess up what they chose, edit-undo, zoom window...... So painful.
i admit i am a cad banger who started on R14 with the digitizer puck. now avoid that F1 key like a mofo. i sit across from an accounting lady who is super fast at 10 key and we race sometimes.
but i would give it all up for archicad. too many people here who update the plan but not the RCP or update the section but not the elevation and i am the one who has to fix the 2D discrepancies when the RFI's come in

man staghorn, sounds
like a sweatshop where you are....
if you are maxing out CAD , its time to go BIM
BIM is even slower

I just miss R14 when life was simpler. What a difference 10 years has made.
Thinking about it that was at the firm I was with during high school, craaaaaaaapppppppppp. Just keep working to chase away the pain...
How does one reformat the HD or reinstall Windoz without losing manually installed programs, customized items ,etc....?
our firm still runs r14 on some machines, blulite. come on down. (actually you can pick from 12, 14, 05lt, and revit/08.)

I love how kids are so interested in getting the most recent version.. ...2069...and interface hasn;t changed that much in years.
ands when the whole world become so toolbar oriented...delete those toolbars , you ll never use half that shit...
Left handed keyboard command bangers unite!
I'll agree that Autocad has done wonders for my left hand coordination. I'm almost ambidextrous by now.
Staghorn
I have found that masturbation has done wonders for my left hand coordination
I was waiting for that comment, just wondered who was gonna post it.
ff:::::::I be a banger!

make the switch....
