So... I sorta need to put vectorworks on my home lappy for work purposes seeing how im going to be at sites all the time and I'll need to open vworks files from the office. So I head on over to my nearest proveyor of deeply discounted online software as I don't feel like waiting 3 weeks for nemecheck to send me a student copy (even though i did put in an order). Anywhoo I download vworks 12.5.1, open the cd image, go to install when I specify an install destination it tells me i must spec a previous vworks install. This seems odd to me as the vworks install files are already over a gig in size, so I assumed I downloaded a full version and not just an update. So I'm assuming I have to download vworks 12 (which is harder to find and 1.6 Gigs in size) install that and then install my 12.5. I'm assuming when i'm done I'll have about a meg of space left on my hard drive (these are huge files for what seems like a tiny program!!! ACAD isn't even this cumbersome!). Unless you guys can tell me how to get 12.5 on my system without downloading 12 which seems like it will take an awfully long time...
fwiw - all nemetschek releases go that way. they're all stepped installs.
it was the same on version 11, same on ten, same on nine, etc.
the total file size is not additive. the 12.5.1 may have a ton of files on it that will not be added to the total install, and why they're there, i have no idea.
it's a bit of a security measure on NNA's part. because as you found out, the original release version is harder to find, thereby limiting their exposure to piracy because it's a huge PITA to try and find all the stepped installs.
with the right, ahem, hacks, you might actually be able to use the 12.5.1 disc images as a complete install, but i know nothing of these, ahem, hacks.
[disclaimer]all of my copies of VW are fully licensed, registered and compliant. thank NNA for all your hard work developing this over the years, fighting the sysiphian battle with autocad. go get 'em tiger![/disclaimer]

well it looks like build 12 may be here in the morning so I'll install that and see if it works.
