Concrete LEED Submittals

concrete72

Architects-- how do you recieve LEED submittals from the General Contractors that you work with?  Do these even come from the, or would they come from the concrete sub-contractor or even the ready-mix supplier?  What information is being requested on these submittal sheets?  What are the most important aspects of concrete that need to be reported to understand its ability to fit into LEED?

Thank You,

Dan

typically you have a relationship with the contractor and the contractor has a relationship with the subs.  that should not be breached.  technically, you should never speak to a sub at all.  you can get yourself in trouble.

if the contractor isn't completely on board with LEED, you're going to have a very difficult time.  all the stuff they buy or recycle or whatever should go through them, and they should give you a copy (or at least submit to LEED website on their own).  the subs will have the information on regionally produced dirt and aggregate and whatnot, so that sort of thing will likely be on their letterhead.  just lean on the contractor to get the info from them.

The architects who are hired to administer LEED and do so correctly have written the requirements into their specifications. That way it becomes a contractural obligation to the contractor. If you don't understand the requirements, how can you confirm the correct information has been submitted to you. The LEED website is a good place to start. You need to know which LEED system you are designing to first and foremost and then you can research the appropriate credits for your project. So to answer your question, assuming you've written the LEED requirements into your specs, a LEED submittal should be treated the same way as any other submittal.

A concrete submittal for LEED is not a complete submittal in itself. I would guess that it is part of MRc2-5 as listed under LEED-NC 2009.
