I recently read an article about the Palace of the Republic, the former East Berlin government & cultural center, which was torn down from 2006 to 2008.
Apparently, 1,600 tons of its steel was then shipped to Dubai, to be used in the construction of the Burj Khalifa.
I'm pretty fascinated by this fact, and I was wondering if anyone could think of any other cases of this. Specifically: when large, famous buildings have been torn down, and their building components have been reused in other (famous) buildings.
All new steel used in construction contains a large percentage of recycled content. It's just how it is. You may be able to trace steel from particular large demolition to a specific new project, but it most cases it all just goes into a giant meat grinder and ends up reused all over.

What Rusty said, I've typically heard the percentage is around 95% recycled steel in the US. and that is a really good thing.
