Letter of Recommendation

ziazia

Hi all,

I have a dilema. I am aplpying for M.Arch I programs and have picked two professors to write me Rec Letters. However, The third spot I am saving for an employer.

I have two choices, My previous employer from the United States,  who is very good at writting english, knows me well and I am sure would write a great letter, but didnt go to a top school.

My other choice is my current boss here in Ecuador who also knows me very well, has a very good relationship with me and attended Columbia for his masters, the problem with him is that I am not sure if he will do his best to write a letter and isnt as good as writting in english.

Who would you choose? Does my current boss has a higher weight because he attended a top school?

Thanks!

my advice would be to get the letter from the columbia guy if you're sending the letter columbia.  otherwise go with the good writer.  i'm pretty sure the content is going to have more weight than what school some guy went to long ago.

Maybe it would be best to very softly/subtly/intelligently offer to proofread the letter after he's writing. Maybe you just need to make sure all the contact info is correct from his end and the schools end, and you don't have that information yet to put it on himself. Just sayin'.

When I approached both past employers and past professors, 5/6 had no concerns with me seeing the letter before it was sent to the prospective school. Most actually sent me the first draft to ask if it was the direction I was looking for. Chances are he'll be like that as well, and that is most likely the best time.

Hell, he probably knows it too.
