traveling scandinavia, looking for jaw-dropping architecture- plz help?

rustanddust

hey all.

i'm travelling stavanger and oslo in norway, stockholm (and maybe malmo) in sweden, and copenhagen, denmark for the next few weeks with my wife.

have any of you been through these towns and been stopped in your tracks by any amazing architecture (esp. modern and/or progressive/sustainable.... experimental even) ????

i'm especially curious about people's experiences in oslo, as we may be relocating there (i'm from the States, originally). we won't have very much time to spend there, so the cream of the crop would be appreciated.

and does anyone have anything to say (positive or negative) about the oslo school of architecture and design? any current students or alumni here?

thanks in advance!

Make you take a train ride from Stavanger to Bergen and then a hydrofoil around the coast back to Stavanger. The train goes through the fjords and is peppered with grass covered shacks.

rustanddust....
don't know that there's too much in terms of modern architecture
in oslo...it's a great city though. you should check out their museum
on bygdoy island..it's not modern architecture, but it goes through
all of their architecture through the past several hundred years. all
full scale buildings..very interesting and unlike most museums you'll
see.

there's also a viking ship museum there.

i've always wanted to study there...there is a very cool church there..
i have a magazine on it at home. nicely detailed and such...plus i
think the university actually has a nice campus center that is well
designed..

i believe nbbj did a campus center for telenor or something there
which is similar to their reebok campus.

you should check out the opera house for sure though...and maybe
try to go talk to snohetta (maybe call beforehand and tell them your
situation..worth a try)...other than that enjoy the city. i love it there.

not architecture you should check out: vigelands park ...one man and
his crew doing hundreds of sculptures...very cool experience. munch
museet..if you like edvard munch this is where you should go..he's
so much more than the scream. holmenkollen...the ski jump for
the oslo olympics. awesome view of the city..and good restaurant up
there as well...

i'll try to get some names of some good buildings for you.
