MoMA has an exhibit on tall bldgs. (MoMA is in Queens for a few more months).
The Center for Architecture on Bleeker and La Guardia always has something going on. Right now they have an exhibit on Calatravas new high rise project planned for lower Manhattan.
Mostly just walk around and enjoy some of the interesting interiors, especially around Nolita, Soho, and the village.
there's meier's towers that have just been built on the west
side highway...if you're into that sort of thing...the chrysler
building is interesting regardless of what age you're in.
holl's storefront for art and architecture..
the moma is almost done being renovated and can be walked
around..it's going to be nice.
the guggenheim of course...i don't know if there are all that many
new buildings..mostly it's interiors...like gehry's conde naste
cafeteria, diller and scofidio's restaurant...
i think rogers marvel did a museum in harlem...and the young
architect's forum..narchitect....installation is still up in ps1 and is worth
seeing for the museum and the drinking and djs on weekends...
and there's always coney island which is disappointing and interesting
at the same time...
if you come back in a while you could see diller scofidio's renovation
of lincoln center...in a while a while...and christo is putting up those
curtain gates in february which is going to be really beautiful...
the whitney is interesting as a museum and as a piece of architecture.
machado and silvetti have a pavilion in battery park down near ground
zero..and wall street is worth seeing just to see how strangely if fits
into the city...
the garden at the UN building is great. right on the east river.
the austrian cultural forum is on east 52nd, near park. if you walk right around the corner you can sit in from of the segram building, and stare at the new york racket club, and lever house. not far from grand central.

I am heading to the Big Apple in a couple of weeks. I am planning on visiting

Rose Center
Empire State Bldg

Get an underground or local paper and find out about the cool events, not just the touristic ones

NYC nightlife: Endless great bars and hotels. Take in design while having fun too!

-Hudson Hotel (Starck interior, amazing Francesco Clementa ceiling mural in bar)
-60 Thompson Hotel (rooftop bar very chic and has a great 360 view;)
-APT (bar/lounge designed by India Mahdavi who worked under Christian Liagre)
-Lotus (I think Vinoly did it)
-Marquee (by Phillip Johnson)
Also, check out Grand Central Terminal, Cooper-Hewitt usually has good exhibits going on, some of the new ferry terminals on the river . . .
