moving to santa monica in a few months with no idea were to live. can anyone offer any helpful information regarding areas that should be considered and areas to avoid? my girlfriend loves the beach, so that should be a consideration.
what is your budget? it's easy to recommend different beach communities, but do you know how much rent or beach properties are? where do you currently live now? the most logical place would be believe it or not.....santa monica!
currently in the boston/cambridge area, spending around $1400 per month on rent. doesn't have to be beach front property, but looking to spend about the same as noted above.
If you work in Santa Monica, the most logical place to live is ... Santa Monica.
Scope out the routes of the Big Blue Bus and Beach Shuttles, too. Traffic on the Westside is a pain in the ass, and you might be happier if your daily commute is a 15-30 minute bus ride instead of grinding your car through traffic.
Main Street area for up scale urban grit
Venice/ Abbot Kinney for the bohemian/artist/affordability thing.
Marina Del Rey if you want to live in an area that has the least amount of character possible.
Manhattan Beach if you are single/social
Montana Street if you like to shop.
Santa Monica is a large place so with in biking distance ro work is probably the best.
