This upcoming Fall, I will be enrolled in the final Thesis Project Studio for school (that will be included in my final portfolio) and I want to ask all you bright, talented members if you have suggestions on ideas...general concepts will be appreciated.
well, have you done the ubiquitous penis or vagina project yet? how about a memorial to animal rights? why not a residence for a serial killer? or how about an architecture dealing with terrorism, perhaps you could look into a methodology that attacks governmental or cultural institutions....an architecture for your death?
start out with one stong idea...make it simple. simple schemes are good.
what do you love? what program can you enjoy working with for over a year? even if you do pick something you love, be aware that you will most likely even tire of that after a period of time...its better to start high and end low.
also...the world has too many train stations/centers of communication/etc....don't go with the obvious which screams for one theoretical construct over another, and don't start with a 'i love this type of building', or whatever current 'blobitecture' you want to try your hand at...your profs can't appreciate nor grade you on untried/untrue methodologies.
your thesis is the last time for a while you get to do what you love, an opportunity to identify and derive your own design process and take full posession of what you love about Architecture. make it count. Rigor, Rigor, Rigor.
I came up with my thesis concept by literally reading the newspaper. An article gave me an idea of a building typology and an area. Nearly a year later I had a thesis project that had little in common with my big idea from that original article but it was the catalyst that got me going.
HELP!

You could start by casting balloons in plaster, pop the balloon, and talk about the "residue."

You could do something that helps the poor. The overly liberal leaning faculty of most schools love that socialist stuff.
