The Ecological Design Center is proud to invite you to the 2007 HOPES Conference from April 19-22 at the School of Architecture & Allied Arts on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene.
The theme of HOPES 2007 is “Confluence: where Water meets Design” and the conference will address the many ways in which sustainability can be manifest today. In addition to dozens of panel discussions and hands-on workshops related to sustainable design, HOPES has the honor of presenting keynotes from:
JOAN IVERSON NASSAUER, FASLA, internationally acclaimed landscape architect and professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Michigan and distinguished practitioner of Landscape Ecology
DAVID LEATHERBARROW, Professor of Architecture and Chairman of the Ph.D. Program at the University of Pennsylvania
PAUL KEPHART, a renowned biologist and ecologist; and internationally renowned architect
NINA MARITZ, member of Namibia Institute of Architects and South African Council of Architects.
HOPES will also include a Green Building Expo, Professional Showcase, 24-Hour Design Charrette, Speakers’ Dinner, and kidsHOPES activities.
ALSA, AIA and APA credits are available, as is academic credit through the University of Oregon. Visit http://hopes.uoregon.edu for more information, and to register online. Homestay accommodations are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and entries into the Professional Showcase and Green Building Expo will be accepted until all slots have been filled.
WHAT IS HOPES?
HOPES (Holistic Options for Planet Earth Sustainability) works to promote a deeper understanding and broader application of sustainable design principles. It is presented annually by the Ecological Design Center on the University of Oregon campus and is the only student-run sustainable design conference of its kind in the country. Shigeru Ban, Samuel Mockbee, Sim Van der Ryn, James Hubbel, Angela Danadijieva, Michael Pyatok, Steve Badanes, Richard Register, David Orr, John Schaeffer and Clare Cooper Marcus are all past keynote speakers.
