Architecture and landscape in Northern Europe ??

Landman

Seeking recommendations for must see architectural sites in Northern Europe - Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark - also possibly northern Germany.

Contemporary architecture/landscape...
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I will be giving it some further thinking, I am in landscape Arch. so I will try to figure something out.

If you have any further questions feel free to email me, I am in the area, maybe I can help you out. When will you go be going, will you be in Scandinavia for long?

I will try to post some more advice later.

the new opera house in oslo by snøhetta should be opening soon. also their bærum cultural centre in sandvika. jva is also another great young norwegian office.

and don't forget about all the aalto in finland: paimio, villa mairea, pretty much all of helsinki. holl's chiasma. thinking about it makes me want to go back.

ORESTAD!!! currently writing my senior thesis on it.

a 'future-city' with a lot of starchitect bldgs (nouvel, henning larsen, working on libeskind plan and steven holl highrises) but also a lot of really interesting work (i.e. PLOT, ARKKI masterplan)! it's a 10 minute subway ride from downtown copenhagen. take the new metro in the direction of westamager and get off islands brygge or universitets and just walk around...it's actually pretty incredible. cranes for miles. here's what the site will eventually look like (in 20-30 years) looking north towards the city:
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp1.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2YtZQRPtI/AAAAAAAAAR4/o-QtTlVmmRI/s1600-h/orestad+sydsyd.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2YtZQRPtI/AAAAAAAAAR4/o-QtTlVmmRI/s400/orestad+sydsyd.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5052362262620225234" /></a>

tietgenkollegiet (lundgaard&tranberg) is my favorite project by far!
it's student housing...really a must-see. next door to henning larsen's IT building.
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2WzpQRPqI/AAAAAAAAARg/U_Eu5ZKSk6Q/s1600-h/standard.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2WzpQRPqI/AAAAAAAAARg/U_Eu5ZKSk6Q/s400/standard.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5052360170971152034" /></a> we toured the building before it opened, and as we were waiting for the project manager to come and let us in, jean nouvel and his entourage finished their tour...and got into a minivan!

-gigantic j.nouvel DR danish broadcasting corp HQ...

also check out their yacht club, forget where in cph it is but it's worth it! <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bp2.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2WzpQRPpI/AAAAAAAAARY/CN8rgoTRTtM/s1600-h/S002.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_BIvyEzUW5Kc/Rh2WzpQRPpI/AAAAAAAAARY/CN8rgoTRTtM/s400/S002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5052360170971152018" /></a>

this is definitely the place to be for new civic and institutional danish/scandinavian/european arch. it's worth a trip, plus, amager is a pretty interesting area of copenhagen anyways. there's also a lot of 1950s-70s prefab student housing around there which for its time was very progressive both structurally and in terms of co-operative housing! hope this helps! email me at [email protected] if you need more specific directions or anything!

p.s. all these images were from google image, not my own.
