Any interseting concept/ideas/case study/previous competition/presentation/web resource covering or related to traffic situation in cities.....from architectural point of view...which can be incorporated or become a theme for a paper on the general subject of Traffic Situation in cities
Since it is going to be presented to a mixed audience i would prepare something that can hold there attention...may be by usign animation or illustartions, anecdotes.....i have just begun thinking though....
it would be good for you to talk to a traffic engineer. not that they will help you with 'best practices' exactly, but it will give you some insight into the narrow range of concerns a traffic engineer typically considers. quality of life is not among them.

there is an interesting thing going on here in louisville right now that might be fodder for your talk. after spending over a decade and millions of $$$ reclaiming our riverfront with an incredible series of parks and public spaces, the riverfront interstate which was put there in the 60s (and never should have been) has a planned expansion directly over the parks and through downtown.
from a traffic engineering standpoint, this is apparently an easy argument, but there has been a HUGE backlash against it. a grassroots program sponsored by two local businessmen has been organizing the fight: see their arguments at www.8664.org . their proposal would actually remove the riverfront highway completely and reroute traffic around downtown, allowing a lot of riverfront land to be made available for further enhancement of the relationship between the city and the river.
it'll be a tough fight. engineering of the new 'spaghetti junction' is well underway, land acquisition has begun. but there is a good amount of momentum behind 8664, too.
