coffee substitutes...

tobyv

i spend more on coffee per month than i do on gas for my truck. last month in particular was ridiculous and i want to find something i can substitute for my morning/mid-morning/afternoon/late evening cravings that will still give me the pleasure when i need it. i'm aiming for something healthier and cheaper, and convenient if possible. im also trying to quit smoking. any ideas? i tried some fruits & veggies but they're hard to keep around me throughout the day...

you must be buying the permium stuff at starbucks and whatnot, downgrade to gas station/deli coffee or find drinks with plenty of vitamin B in em.

Hmmm...you're saying healthy? so non-addictive? Damn, directing you to the cocaine/heroin debate would have been so much easier...Most of the people I know of trying to quit smoking/caffeine generally substitute it for blind rage/violence....seems to work for them.

many years ago i decided to go backpacking in the alaskan back country for 5 weeks. during this time, i lived out of my backpack. i didn't wan to deal with the extra weight (ounces matter in long hauls) of gatorade, crystal light powder, etc, so i figured i would just stick with mountain spring water.

best decision of my life.

i totally cleansed my body. i stopped drinking sodas, coffee entirely and grew a deep and passionate love for water. good old water. plain jane water.

no, it's not easy. and i was essentially forced to drink only water but i wouldn't change it for the world. i haven't had a sip of coffee in about 6 years and i've probably had about 3 sprites since then.

i just reread my statement. it sounds kind of like an 'aa' pamphlet.

Exercise. 20 min. on a bike or a short run a couple time a day. You're golden. Adrenaline, seratonin, increased heart rate, these are all good things. Heck even a moderately fast paced walk will do the trick, as long as you're not walking moderately fast to the store to pick up some cigarettes.

The great thing about green tea is it keeps you up and good for you. No come downs. Just keeps you steady and awake. Yerba Matte is also a great way to stay awak.

I just took a daytime allergy pill. I normally only take half, and now I know why. I'm supposed to be doing homework but my brain feels disconnected from my body, and both feel like they're floating 6 inches above the ground.

Don't recommend it. I'm going back to 1/2 doses when needed, and avoiding doing colour experiments on flowers. Who'd have known?

Oh, and i also can't seem to wean myself off coffee. Tea doesn't do it, and I don't like carbonated drinks. At least I'm trying to switch to organic coffee!?!

Try Ginseng w/Ginko. If your in NY go to china town and you can get a months supply for $5. If not you can go to any Asian food grocery store in your area and get the same quantity for about the same price. (They come in one shot bottles) I can't remeber the name but they come in a gold box. The old guy told me it helps with fatigue and memory. Essential in architecture. I have been taking it now for about two months and I have seen a significant drop in my fatigue level. I usually combine this with power naps during projects and I'am able to make "smart" decision during those long haul hours of the night because I feel no brain strain or fatigue. Then again thats my experienece. The results might be different for you. It's also not FDA approved but something about trusting those old chinese men reassures me. They do live to about 100 yrs in all the kung-fu movies. :)

are you buying pre-brewed coffee or making it at home | office?

I switch coffee with tea (every three to one), makes a difference in the days | nights because your body gets used to it

Your a funny guy. Can't believe you caught that. I had to read like six times to get what you were saying. But in all honesty my energey level and memory have improved despite my mistake.

wish they'd at least legalize coca in the U.S., the tea is far better than any other at recharging body and mind.

i'll try water and green tea first and see how they work out. if after a while they don't then i will submit to the gas station coffee...
