Hey, does anyone knows about any (architectural) competition that is not listed here in Archinect??, i've heard about the competition for the Garcia Lorca cultural center in Spain, but still no official launch or anything...
So u know any other competition that we need to know about??
not to change the subject but,
there was a tent or outdoor product compitition several mounths ago. winner was going to loose the design but win 500 bucks, does anybody remember it or know what happened? subject matter was ok but copyright portion was a real ripoff. thanks for the info, if any.
mmhh was the "green tent" competition?? i think is still available at this website (archinect) competition links.... i dunno...somehow any of the (summer) competitions atracted me this year...i dunno maybe is just me
and the competition for the soccer field, wasn't really my thing, i mean, is a coll and very humanitarian purpose...but what can i say...just not my thing (if u come from a soccer country, is easy to hate soccer)
there were some great stadiums in euro 2004 in portugal. i liked the open ended one with rock croppings into the stadium. probably you can see them in www.uefa.com
is it just me or have all the (esp. North American) competitions been 'green' lately? green, green, green.
green is all good, but it seems to me there's much less room for imagination. i mean its like, okay, don't forget to design with solar panels and orient your building correctly with shading devices and if you're really feeling green, recycle your rainwater.
" There was a tent or outdoor product competition several months ago. Winner was going to loose the design but win 500 bucks..."
This is the kind of stuff that simply kills me!!
RipOff?! ... More like Fleecing of Corporate America after raping the architect! ...
Whoever won should have called me!! ...
Would have gotten your idea copyrighted and trademarked, then after you win and it's published, and then they realize they've hit a snag because they cannot own your idea/design (vomit excretion, etc.) they'll disqualify you, you forfeit the $500, BUT ... you've already had FREE publicity, won the competition outright, and you can keep your design and idea.... Now you're free, and well known, so therefore you can get your idea mass produced in Cheaplabor City somewhere in Cheaplabor America, sell it to WalMart, and then with so many profits rolling in, for proper etiquette, we’d then take some time and invest a full page advertisement in a major newspaper, to give a very special THANKS to the sponsors of this competition, and as a final touch? … A full-size graphic image of a hand with middle finger. The End.

It's not really a soccer competition. though the main facility is a field the purpose is to engage the community and provide HIV/AIDS education, testing and treatment with a push towards girls between 9-14, where most have no healthcare and little sex education. The area has one of the highest AIDS rates in the world.
The field will be run by HIV/AID medical professionals (acting as coaches) and one of the main criteria is encourage interaction between the kids and the doctors.
We are currently talking with groups in Zimbabwe, Kenya and Togo about replicated the selected design. There are also a couple of other 'surprises' that I am trying to make happen. -- we will see...
Trace, Siyathemba is due October 15th. We are going to do a competition in the spring too. The reason for this weird timing is most organizations are restrict. Fortunately we are not bound by this.
The other reason is alot of professional firms are slow in the summer and will only do competitions then.
John but there has not been an official launch for that competition (The Garcia Lorca cultural center)...cause i also knew about that...but never really saw any more info about it...just a couple of articles in magazines and newspapers.... if u know more...share!

I wish I did. They are always oriented around being due in the summer or early fall, so that usually means we aren't going to see much for a while.
yeah i know that...seems this year was kind of quiet

Here are some resources:
www.europaconcorsi.com/

www.archiseek.com/competitions/
www.internationalcompetitionnetwork.org/
links to manymanymany comp-sites
www.archined.nl/
switch to english goto competitions and choose international
www.arplus.com/competition/competiton.htm
the architectural review competition database
Take a look, choose one and have fun!
Problem is, all of the competitions, with the exception of the WA one above, are due in a few weeks. Hardly enough time.
So we are back to 'there aren't many competitions in the fall' deal.

that was a slip of the keyboard - but i'd love to do a design for that comp. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any news on that one
For new competitions, you could try -theArchitectureRoom.com which publishes architecture competitions and job adverts monthly.
