So you're an adult now. You may want to peruse this thread, which has some discussion on how kids should be treated like adults and pay for their mistakes even if they were mislead by people they should be able to trust.
i don't think there is any reason to think that laptop is not fairly normal and up to contemporary standards. If you're really stressed about the decision, just remember that you will likely be throwing it away in about 5 years anyway because that's how technology works. buying a house or taking on students loans will have much more dire consequences.
also, it turns out archinect has a search button. you can type in "laptop" in the search box and get lots of similar threads to read.
you may want to bump the following thread so all of these questions could be put into one place, and you can talk to your peers who have the same question instead of having everyone start a new thread:

Oh, and Khnv, I'm about to buy a laptop too. I'm no expert or techie, but it seems like the video card is one of the more important features. NVIDIA seems to be a good brand. Get the best one you can afford. Autodesk also has a breakdown if you go to their site on which brands and models worked well with their programs.
8 GB ram is good enough, if you really want to get crazy get 12 gb ram, considering most new software use GPU (ram memory) for rendering, or just for regular operation its not a bad idea to get 12 gb ram. also look up ratings for that graphics card. best thing to do here is go to adobe's website and look up recommended requirements for adobe photoshop cs6.
oh i just read the Inspiron ultrabook part, you should look up reviews on youtube for it then go to the store and see if you like the look of it. I have dell XPS 17 and it took me some time to get comfortable with its large keyboard
oh btw if you buy Dell make sure you do dell student, you get student discount and also look up online for dell coupons. They also have a 1 yr no interest payment method

Regarding what configuration laptop to buy
Hi all, I am doing my masters in sustainable Design
I planning to buy a dell lap inspiron ultrabook with DVD RW of the following configuration
-i7 processor 3rd gen
-*gb DDR3 ram 1600MHz
-500GB HDD & 32GBm SATA
-AMD Radeon HD 7570 1GB GDDR5
what would you all suggest?
I think I would be working on simulation softwares and generally i use Auto Cad, Sketchup, Rhino
