I was wondering if it's beneficial to get a degree not only in architecture but also in interior design & landscape architecture. Would I be able to make considerably more income?

Probably not unless you want to run a large multi-disciplinary company. Just my gut instinct.

time = money = degree

if this is your first fore into design then stick with one discipline, if you have an undergrad degree and heading straight into grad school, choose another degree. If you have design degree plus lots of experience then go for two...

more money? not really, probably less since most firms only need one type of professional and won't know what to do with your over-educated head.

I have yet to cross paths with an interior designer/landscape architect, not that it's impossible or that there isn't a market for that garwondler... just that I haven't met anybody who has these skills. there are interior plant designers (think houseplants and fake bamboo at the mall) just not bonafide ASID card carrying Interior Design and CLARB certified licensed LA...

Arch + LA, there are few of them
Arch + Planner, ditto
Arch + Engineer, ditto
Planner + LA, ditto
Arch + MBA, more and climbing
Arch + Law, few

Planner + Engineer, some
Planner + Law, lots

Engineer + LA, ditto
Law + LA, fewer
LA + MBA, not so many

Eng + MBA, lots

Arch + Interior, lots
Interior + Engineer, rare
Interior + LA ????
Interior + Psychologist, few

Arch + Psych, few (mostly with mega home builders)
Arch + MDs, rare (mostly midlife crises)
LA + MD, rarer (but there are lots of garden designers)
Interior + MD, several in healthcare arch

this is not an exhaustive list, please submit your own impressions of who the multi-disciplinarians are...

if it's money you want, i recommend getting an mba or going into law or med. perhaps you could work for halliburton.

I'd personally work towards;

Arch + Porn Star = very few [unless Ron Jeremy could be counted as a Penile Architect, although that could be redundant]

that way you could get a lot of pay and actually screw the client, instead of getting screwed by the client - unless of course that is your thing.

arch + robotics

that way you can build a robot and have the robot perform all the shitty work if you've had too much margaritas during lunch...

I met Ron at a party... gosh it was back in '96 - he is a very smart and witty guy much to my surprise!

computer geek + architect - way to common at schools these days - that ain't architecture, it's just a pretty picture on the screen!

funny we had many fledging musicians in school, who couldn't hack it with architecture

arch + musician...many have tried all seem to fail

we had an Anglican priest

Oddly enough we didn't have any QS, which is really where i think there would be the wealth, and i'm sure would satisfy as a worthwhile multidiscipline.

And anyone whose ever told a client to hire a QS would know....

Pending tomorrow's mail, it will be Industrial Designer + Arch.....

I figure that's gotta count for something, even if it was never planned that way.
