cool flash websites?

nothing_is_everything

Hi...
Does anyone know of any decent flash sites? I'm looking for a few slick examples for a class I'm taking.

Doesn't need to be design related.....but would be nice.

Grazie

The architecture looks about as dated as the site, or about 7-10 years old.

Neither look too bad to me, just dated.

I wonder why they chose to use flash for this anyway? Granted, it may have a more fluid connection from one page to the next, but it's nothing you couldn't do in html. Plus the text is too fuzzy and small. The only thing it seems to be utilizing from flash is the rollover buttons, and even that can be done in dreamweaver or by code. Plus, if changes need to be made, they will need to go into the flash file to regenerate a new .swf.

Flash is good, don't get me wrong, but I think if you're going to use it, use it more to its potential.

I am probably the only software engineer out there that despises flash. I am all about the content – who cares about the splashy fun flash crap. Just show me the content I came there to see and be done with it. You don't need to prove to me you have money and hired a web designer.

I'm with katze. The novelty wore off half a decade ago.

Flash will rule, eventually. HTML will die, eventually.

AS 3 is out and much more powerful. Websites are evolving from simple pages to truly sophisticated presentations (including data exchange, information/research gathering, etc.).

The future will be more immersive with the combination of various technologies (video, 3D, etc.), none of which can be dealt with all that well with HTML.

Good design is good design. Just like blobs stink and are almost dead, that doesn't mean Maya is a bad tool.

I have to say you are absolutely wrong. Flash is in decline, it was the hot shit in the early 2000's. The internet has matured away from the novel interfaces and "immersive" attemps.

The last cople of years has focused on usable simple websites and innovations in the social and networked nature of the sites (rss and so on) as well as backend stuff such as xslt. Flash has almost completely disappeared from the interfaces and become a niche app for delivering video and audio content, usually in a very straighforward and simple way.

The exception is "tv ad" type micro sites for films and such. And even there flash is loosing out http://www.gucci.com (made entirely through html and javascript)

I'm with Katze and Kalle on this, Flash is best used for specific types of content, little movies or games or whatever. But even in that arena, Processing is more versatile and powerful.

You're wrong, trace, Flash is doomed. HTML lives, if for no other reason than that it's inherently searchable and linkable, which Flash ain't, as I've said before.

How do you hate Blobs but love Flash? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Our website is currently just a flash slideshow with an animation done with after effects and a live update to our flickr account which we currently use to load images of past and current projects which sometimes are only showcased by a single image. The amount of information available varies depending on the stage of the project and any legal issues that might prevent us from showing more than just a teaser. The temp site and full site is developed by our partners from weworkforthem.
**The bigger site which is due to be launched soon will be a combination of HTML & FLASH.

our site is flash. not a flashy flash site, just flash. i'm fine with it and have never heard a complaint. i like both flash and html. both can be thoughtful and good, but both can also suck.

Maybe I am wrong, or maybe I should just rephrase it and state that 99% of the sites that I like and look to for inspiration are Flash based.

I suppose it's like architecture - the vast majority is horrible too.

Personally, I don't think it comes down to technology (there are surely nice buildings going up drawn with pencil and horrible buildings going up with revit, cnc, whatever).

The tool is not a concern to me, it's the execution that matters.

flash gives u the freedom to navigate the site!

isn't that a good enough reason for architects?

btw, web site are commercial based, u need to be innovative to attract potential clients... html are for ppl who likes to sell things in a primitive way like "buy 1 get one free at $9.99".

Ok, so you stick with your design and I'll stick with mine. We'll have a contest to see who gets more clients:)
