Here are a couple exterior renderings of my latest architecture project. I just finished my 3rd year undergrad at Cal Poly SLO. These were done through sketchup -> podium - > photoshop. I would love some feedback. These are low-res images, let me know if you would like to see them high res.
The project is co-housing mixed-use community so privacy is not really a high priority. Its located in Merced ca and its designed for recently retired baby boom adults. I decided to go with a more dated scene and feel. Im still learning from all you experts out there. Im only 21
If it's for Merced.....for authenticity, please add gang tags on the walls, board up the windows, and put a forclosure sign out front. Make the vintage cars a little closer to the ground too.
Wow the miss in the sun shading herself with her hand, the fading car, shadows are perfect, i love everything about this rendering full of life very realistic.
You must have spent some time in Merced - you really captured the sense of a hot summer day there - I use to work in the flight simulator center up at Castle - hotdamn it would git hot there
2. The perspective is odd. It may just be because you broke the roof line on the left side of the building, but the perspective appears to be rounding the image like a strange sort of fish eye lens. It would look much better with crisp sharp lines.
3. The blur on the car is not working.
4. From a design perspective, get rid of the spider clamps on the storefront.

1. Rusty's comment about the kissing midgets made me LOL. All of your scale figures including the car are not located properly and are either too big or too small. The blur on the car is again not working.
2. You're casting shadows in at least two different directions. The shadows in and of themselves are too dark - distracting. The shadow of the palm in the foreground serves no purpose and looks like a smudge.
All that being said, I think you're off to a good start with these.
i don't know that's it's a rendering problem that the cars are distracting. in reality there would be a lot more cars, i expect, and cars ARE ugly and they do distract our attention from and ruin the view of good architecture.
more of a public policy and urban land use issue than a rendering problem, imo. ; )
I really like that the sky continues so far upward. I think they're both great images, and you have developed your own unique style. I will agree that your people are not scaled correctly. Try really using perspective lines to make sure you're proportions are correct. The ladies on the far left in the first image are too large, they look like they are the same size as the people in the center of the image where your 2 points of the perspective would start. On the second image the couple in the recess are too small and should be scaled up to meet the same perspective lines. Good Work!
well the renders look pretty good .... though can be made better ... There is always the one-third rule in Photography; that ideally a photograph of a building should consist of one third sky and two third the subject matter (the building in this case) ... so set up your views and cameras accordingly (especially for the first image which has a massive sky) ....
BTW Derek what is the material on the facade at G+1 level as is seen in the second image??

Final Exterior Renderings

Them kissing midgets better watch out for them birds.
Rendering look very dated, but I suppose that was the intent. Design is cool except for the "zigzag facade. Privacy hell.
What's with the old cars? I'm assuming it's intentional?

the cars are beyond distracting.
they're good man--nice work. i would probably crop the square view to an aspect ratio more like the close-up.

The light above the two kissing is wastful with so much daylight but still very nice rendering
And the haze from the dust agriculture....I live 30 miles from Merced...hot, windy, dry.
