MAC software

David Zeibin

Microsoft is doing pre-orders, but I don't see a date anywhere obvious: www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=comingsoon

I have to be honest and say I haven't done enough heavy-duty stuff with it yet to say, but I would say, with some reservation on account of the G5 (which I have seen and played with and almost peed my pants), yes, annoyingly slow. I run a 1.33 GHz G4 PowerBook with 768 MB RAM and 64 MB graphics card, and ACAD 2004 on Win2K is still a bit pokey for my liking. However, to fuel the fire, I couldn't go without my Mac...

Mac is like communism, beautiful but unfree.

Windows world is like the market economy. Ugly as hell, and full of diseases, but free, and has room for the sublime.

Guys, go visit this link and read spak long post. It’s the same link previously suggested by Zeibin :

It is worth reading it and an eye opener.
Perhaps in a couple of years I will try to run my own space on Macs. A good example is my sister who is an ophthalmologist and runs her 3 clinics on a Mac network which was put together by her and my brother in law. (Mind you these guys are not tech savvy at all) The clinics are paperless (literally) and they've never had any problems with networks, OS ect...
I am a Maya, and adobe software user...and barely use aCAD (as of yet); perhaps I will reconsider in a couple of years to make a transition.
*seriously, check out spak's post, is very informative*

zboy I'd like to know more about colorsync and 'productivity' and 'benchmark-tests' I have alot of trouble getting my printer (super-top of the line printer) to print what is on my HP xp (ie. PC) screen. I am able to pump beautiful colours out of it, but it tends to be more of an ability to ride fate, than really control what I want. I do have an old Mac that I use for running quicken, but that I have upgraded to Panther, so for all intensive purposes is a 'modern' machine. Perhaps I should begin using it for layout to give me more control of the colours.
Ill begin with colorsync, but do you have any other key words I can google, or any other tips about colour printing control for the mac?

Zoe:

Colorvison's SpyderPro. Use ICC profiles for your printer and media (download them from your printer's website)

Friends of mine have had good results with SuperCal for monitor calibration. I've never been able to quite make it work properly... But then again, I've never really tried that hard.
