Does anyone know of any public woodshops in Chicago?

the park district use to have several public woodshops around the city but i'm not sure if they still do. might be worth a call.

found this, (sorry if gets too crowded Poczatek), (actually perhaps this isn't your secret), but I've never been to one...I think I'll check out one today...

horner park shop is great - and portage park has a huge facility - not listed - they have [or had] lots of wood in store also that was for the taking - must say the lads there were complete loosers for management

YES!!! PORTAGE PARK!

I actually visited Merrimac because Portage wasn't listed... but PPark is 4 blocks from me! (therefore, TED rocks)

However, when I spoke to the guys at Merrimac they said that you had to take the adult wood shop class (something like $20) and you were only able to work when the class was in session (2 hours, 2 or 3 times a week)

I guess I'll stroll over to Portage and check out their equip. I wasn't too impressed with what merrimac had. (table saw, couple of wood lathes, like 5 jigsaws...it looked like they mostly did small crafty stuff

I don't remember the exact name but...
I think it's called the Bauhaus???
They always have ads in reader. They offer classes and use of there facilities after a safety class.
