nightlands

by christian norberg-schulz should be just the ticket.

or the monograph of sverre fehn.

other monographs on aalto or the one called 'writing architecture' about pietila (though this one's a tough read).

Nightlands is more about traditional (village vernacular) Scandinavian architecture and its origins as well as development. Its a very dry read - trust me.

Contemporary scandinavian architecture - meaning last 10-20 years? In Finland that would be a bunch of well-detailed glass & steel office buildings and "scandinavian modernism" style smaller public works -

the strong young firms are: JKMM (jkmm.fi), ALA (ala-a.com - quite plottish), K2S (k2S.fi), also on their way up are Avanto Architects (avan.to),

some well established older firms (in addition to Heikkinen + Komonen): Lahdelma & Mahlamäki (ark-l-m.fi), SARC (sarc.fi), Helin & Co., Tuomo Siitonen Architects (tsi.fi) and Pekka Salminen Architects (salminen.com - doing a lot of work in China).
