I think it's particularly American architects who sport the look.
They're cute I suppose as long as it's someone else wearing one; a bit like handlebar moustaches.
If it's worn as evening dress, the fun thing is untying it towards the end of the evening, thus proving that one can tie one rather than rely upon those elastic-banded pre-tied abberations: quel horreur!
when i was an undergrad and into weird stuff, i bought a very expensive bowtie on the advice of gq or esquire and spent many an hour learning how to tie it. well i went out on a date and the whole time the next table of drunken frat bows were makin fun of me. if they only knew who i was now...
i wore a paisley tie by polo, which i have had for twenty five years that cost me less than a buck at a used clothing store, to work the other day. im bringin paisley back baby...
On ties: I *am* right in thinking that wearing a tie which is the same colour as one's shirt is real *last decade* excepting, I would think, ties of exactly the same material and pattern as one's shirt, which has always been naff?
Waistcoats are another problematic area. Can look just the business; can look gawd-awful.
since i don't wear ties any more except to project interviews, most of my ties are out of date and don't really correspond to any of my clothes.
so i've been working on starting the trend for ties having nothing to do with the rest of the ensemble. really, nothing having anything to do with anything else. no chance of clashing if everything's a different color. i think it's working for me.
I switched from the 'two-in-hand' to the 'half-windsor' some years ago, which is perfect for all but a corduroy tie I have that would probably end up bigger than my head if I used it. The full windsor is a very particular look... the 'trying too hard' look, maybe.
Bow Ties
A friend shared with me the other day his observation that the other profession with a strong association with bow ties is gynecology. Thoughts?
in casino royale, bond wears a bow-tie.
when i saw that i thought: "huh. james bond is wearing a bow-tie."
bow ties are sweet..mdler rocks one when he has to dress up
I've read that speaking/writing about yourself in the third paerson is a sign of insanity. Are there any connections to this and wearing a bow tie?
archtopus, you're accepting that observation from A MAN?
Never seen/heard/experienced that myself.
Ok, fair enough. He said he heard it from a gynecologist.

They were probably just trying to draw attention away from the velcro ties on their sneakers.
my cat wears a bowtie.
i thought it was republican politicos
in other news, Tucker Carlson gave up the bow tie.
they were worn by architects back in the day because 'straight' ties would get caught in the maylines
be different
waa? i tie mine differently then that. just basicly 1,2 and then 6.
I think it would be cool to be "the bowtie guy" at work... Hmm... I wouldn't be able to pull it off...
Sometimes I fantasize about wearing a huge afro to work...
Mdler is half there. Yes, bow ties stay out of our work zone. And gynecologists wear them for... well, for the same reason.
Where's spanky? Is this pre-spanky?
yeah, spanky is post-waldo...
Yeah, he's all little rascals. Phh...
If you wear a tie to office , Always remove your tie before you try to remove jammed paper from a plotter.
necktie .i.e
luckily we don't use diazo machines in the office anymore. i got my tie stuck in that sucker more than once.

I wore a paisley tie to the interview that landed me this gig.
Paisley is SO in right now. Paisley is EVERYWHERE. noone's bringin it back, it's back.
in fact, anyone that's ahead of the curve won't wear paisley anymore because it's such a right-now thing to do.
Vado: way to go my man!

A couple years ago I couldn't find a single paisley item in the mall. Not one.
I'm in love.
Oops. My cheating heart...
Ok. The real girl.
her younger sister...

My great grandfather was chief engineer of a mill in ... Paisley.
And Steven... that sounds pretty stylish actually. In fact, I believe Ralph Lauren has taken up that look.
Barry, that's a double knot for people with necks smaller than 15" or who buy ties at the big & tall stores
Bow ties are cool, my dad where's one with his tux (maybe he's james bond?)
Vado I always thought colour/patterned bow ties were a gag
if you get dressed in the dark, it helps if everything in your wardrobe can work with everything else.
architch, that's a Full Windsor knot.

i would like a tie with this design on it...
Personally I prefer solid colors, but I hear that paisley bow ties are all the rage...
garpike I stand corrected
I would like to wear this some day.
or in red ..

i've never seen anyone wear a bowtie. honestly. never. just plain old neckties.
uve never seen James Bond ?...why Kelly, ,most of us here look equally dapper in neckties, thats cos we are architects + secret agents !
