I am in the midst of applying to grad schools for next year (Fall 2007). I am applying to schools like UCLA, Harvard, Columbia, Pratt, Yale, etc.
I recently took the GREs and am not very happy with my score (I kind of choked on test day). I got a 540 verbal (70th percentile), 630 math (54th percentile) and 4 on writing (32 percentile).
Considering the caliber of the schools I am applying to, do you think it is necessary for me to take the GREs again to try to increase my score? I am pretty confident that I could increase it - is it worth it or a waste of time?
well... although i'm not an expert on this, those scores sound like they might make someone seriously question your academic ability. gre scores sure aren't the most important part of your application and they'll overlook them if everything else is stellar. so you might be alright if you've got a killer portfolio. sending them better scores might help, but it's kinda late and i dunno how they deal with late arrivals of gre scores.
I hope you guys are right. My scores were lower than cba's. I was actually thinking about taking it again, it's to late for GSD but it might improve my chances at other schools.
I would normally say to retake it, but your deadlines are so close that they likely wouldn't even arrive in time to be considered, so what's the point?
its too late to worry about it. just focus on everything else, especially the portfolio. you should focus on the things you still have control over. good luck.
Thanks for all the input... I've spent a considerable amount of time on my portfolio... so I'll put my faith that, cross my fingers, and see what happens.
if you are pretty confident that you can do better, than what do you have to lose? go for it. at least you have your previous scores to fall back on. and if you do better, like you know you can, then you can apply withmore confidence. you will sleep better at night.

apply to canada and the uk!
they're not terrible, not fantastic. If i recall correctly, schools like columbia and sci-arc don't even want the GREs, correct?
they'll matter if you are accepted and are looking for scholarships, but it's the portfolio that'll get you noticed/dropped initially

also, its not too late. you can report your scores yourself. you will get the unofficial scored immediately. so you can use them.
those scores arent so bad...and it looks like most schools do require gres...columbia certainly does.
