anyone know of any examples of courtyard houses for narrow city lots?

but the "courtyard" really needs to be a part of the heated square footage because the lot doesn't have a lot of  square footage to make it a true outside courtyard enclosed by 3 or 4 sides of the house.

the idea i have floating around in my head is an enclosure with a retractable roof or skylight and nano walls  ,or similar, that transforms the interior into exterior; but of course a less costly solution. maybe have it as the kitchen area?

 along the lines of an moroccan riad  but with exterior walls that go away.
