autocad to maya

hey guys, i am a new maya user and i was wondering how to import autocad files to maya? thanks in advance

you have to explode and purge everything and then save it off as a DXF. I think....its been a while.

depends on which version you have--if you have 6.5 or 7.0 (pre-service pack that is) you can enable the DWG/dxf import filter.

If you have 7.01 or whatever it ended up becoming after the update, you're screwed because Autodesk removed the dwg importer with that update.

I believe 8.0 has the dwg importer back, but I haven't upgraded yet so I could be wrong.

The 7.0 bonus tools also have a 3ds importer which can come in handy as well

if you've got access, use rhino to import, and then export the file as .iges, maya likes .iges, and will treat you like a king

It may be a bit late but,...

save as dxf - & file - import.

If it doesn't work go to window>settings pref>plugin manager>
then load the dwg translator.mll

i'm using 7.0
