Anyone able to recommend good LA architects - ideally small, and involved in construction? Also, would be amazing if you know of anyone who works primarily on restoration of modernist houses. The good stuff. I'm really struggling to find firms that aren't over the top (gratuitous flair) or mediocre in design.
You can't be serious if you're looking for recommendations from a forum of strangers.
Are you in L.A.?
If you are then you should see actual buildings and learn about local architects. Instead of you just sitting there and expecting people to come to you with suggestions while you 'thumbs up" or thumbs down"
I know a well-qualified and talented colleague who fits all of your spec's, but I wouldn't want to waste her time with a referral to yet another snotty, entitled potential client.
Check the AIA website for possible candidates, and do your own research.
Actually Strlt and Citizen, I believe in both. This isn't the only research I am doing but it would be stupid not to ask here. I don't see why this advice is any different to anything else asked on the forum, but apologise for a snotty tone - not my intention, but re-reading it is indeed that. Sorry Duggan. I would still appreciate suggestions if anyone has them.
A reasonable person after all! Thanks for the retraction, Alan. (One man's mediocre is another's pinnacle, after all.)
Take a look at http://www.ksmarchitecture.com/index.html. Lots of historic preservation work (the Gamble House, no less), but also some very good modern work, new and restored.

Thanks. But this is pretty mediocre. I'm sure there is better in LA surely? Surely?

I've got to agree w/ strlt_typ here, Alan.

Best of luck with your project...
Modernist LA architects, involved in construction, and involved in restoration of classic modernist houses.
