Resources for Book Design

Kasimatis

I am putting together my thesis book and am starved for book design inspiration.  Anybody have some suggestions of well designed books?  I know how to go to the library and find books with the subject matter I am looking for.  If only there was a way to search for aesthetic....

SMLXL, Pamphlet Architecture, Metropolis, look at Publications/Books of architecture you own, or whose work you admire and notice the layout style... instead of reading about book layout, why not look at books of people's work that you are inspired by?

Honestly, I tend to go to the art/design section of the local Barnes & Noble and just browse through graphic design books. I do love the Experimental Format books, although they're more about form and finish than about layout. A basic book I recommend for anyone undertaking such a thing is Thinking With Type by Ellen Lupton, it's not on publication design persay but you need to know what's in it to design a good book.

Google books! A lot of books have sample pages scanned so you can quickly get a feel for a lot layouts/graphics/colors. Same with amazon
