Today Pluto was demoted from "planet" to "dwarf planet" by the world's leading astronomers due to its oblong orbit that overlaps with Neptune's. Now I'm in no position to argue with them because I get the feeling that they might know a smidge more about this stuff than I do. But I think they failed to take into consideration one very important point: how are kids going to remember the names of the now-8 planets?! Clearly "My Very Energetic Mother Just Served Us Nine Pies" is now defunct... Any ideas for new acronyms?
If memory serves me correctly, pluto, while orbiting the sun, is also in orbit around what was thought to be it's moon. The discussion of demoting Pluto to a dwarf planet came about when it was found that Pluto's moon is around the same size as Pluto itself. They slingshot eachother around.
Perhaps we can remember: My Very Energetic Mother Just Served Us Nothing.
But I'm much more concerned with the mixing up of Disney movies. Don't these scientists remember that Pluto wasn't even in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarf (Planets)?
