does anyone have suggestions on good earplugs? someone thought it would be a good idea to drive piles outside of my office, it's so intense the ground is shaking and i can hardly hear myself think!!!!
Not that I know that much about earplugs, but I've spent many hours with them stuffed in my ears...I usually get whatever I can find at Walgreens with the highest dB rating. Right now I'm using Hearos.
Unfortunately for you, even the best earplugs won't stop the ground from shaking.

2nd hearos. the nicer ones offer good sound baffling while keeping the frequency response more even than others.
basically you won't just hear booming bass frequencies while you work like trucks downshifting. more balanced.
Shure noise cancelling is the way to go.
There is a recent thread on earphones, do a search
- I've had good results with these.
gotta love earlove
What you need are two pencils daubed with axlegrease for a good seal. Push them right in there.
