Python in Rhino

Tee002

Does anyone know where can I find resources for Python in Rhino? Could that be similar to Ruby for Sketch-up? Hope some Archincter can tell more abt. it.

Thanks

Tee

i r giv up

look for resources about IronPython.

once you can code basic python, a read through the in-program docs should get you up to speed re: rhino-python.

There currently  isn't as much out there for Rhino.Python as there is for RhinoScript.  But I would say Rhino.Python is really where McNeal is pointing the direction of Rhino users - rather than RhinoScript.  Python is much more powerful and can be integrated into Grasshopper definitions to make custom components.  It can also be used cross-platform on Macs or PC's.

Jose Sanchez has a bunch of great video tutorials on his website:

http://www.plethora-project.com/

Here is code from the rhino.python primer mentioned above you can learn from:

https://github.com/mcneel/rhinopython101manual/tree/master/ExampleScripts

here are some example code websites to learn off of:

http://ncodon.com/

http://www.madeincalifornia.blogspot.com/

here is some very advanced code that may be good to learn from:

http://code.algorithmicdesign.net/filter/python

http://python.rhino3d.com/threads/18-playing-with-spheres?highlight=scale+small

khan academy has some videos online that talk about Python in general, not specifically for rhino, but will help to understand syntax and how to set up code:

http://www.khanacademy.org/#computer-science

MIT open courseware has an Intro to Computer Science course up online that you can watch the video lectures on.  The course covers programming in Python and different ideas in computer science relating to programming:

http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-fall-2008/index.htm

There is also a McNeal 2 hour Intro to Rhino.Python webinar out there on the interests that I cant find a link to.  I have it  from subscribing to the webinar, but if you find it posted others may be interested in a link if you can post it.

The main forum (which includes lists of resources) for using python in Rhino is here:

http://python.rhino3d.com/forums/1-RhinoPython

Also, the Grasshopper Scripting Forum is a great place to ask questions about python:

If you're in the NYC area, there's a workshop in June on Rhino+Python:
