oh it was in plan from google earth, i was just referring to how i imagine the development might have gone, i'm sure some form of a model was produced... can't see the video? strange if you're on a mac use flip4mac it allows you to play wmv files
The 'concept' was probably "interlocking L's"... I think there's always a first year or two that tries that and ends up with a swastika. They just usually don't get their projects built. = )
sheri,What is so stupid about what ?......there wouldnt be such a furore if some one designed any plan in the shape of a cross or a crescent
If the automated offence that is taken is with the correlations with history..the swastika is an ancient symbol of hinduism ..much older than 1933.
well this project is in San Diego, but there are some things one could keep in mind:
1. The swastika, in Indian culture means something totally different, it means well being and progress
2. Its funny that architects should defame buildings depending on what they look in plan, who the hell is ever going to see it that way? Except if its near an airstrip or a tall bridge....
the swastika shape was also a very common pattern found in ancient roman mosaics. the nazi's ruined a perfectly good and balanced schema for everybody.
i doubt the resemblence was deliberate (they don't even connect at the center) so i think the video and this thread is silly.
My point is that it wouldn't really be a big deal anywhere else in the world, but when you see something like this in a city like Los Angeles it seems far more striking, because there is a great deal of Jewish awareness, obviously due to the large Jewish community.
thats hilarious! apparently you are thinking a little much. seriously, but its nothing to do w/ symbols, im sure it wasn't intentional. anyhow, how would any jewish person see that in perception? this is a plan view, even if they come across this on google or the video, they cant do anything about it. just a stupid joke, not stupid architect. (or is the architect a jew hater?)
It is amazing, how stupid an architect can be...
or smart for that matter
how someone misses something like that on a plan is beyond me.
It could be an ancient budhist symbol as well, but still. if his motive an anit-semetic symbol, he has an excuse
No one ever sees the plan in a building anyway. A real stupid architect is one who designs in plan...
in plan, that is.
ok cutting a foam board swastika is also a dead giveaway even in pretty light-blue, reminds me of that thread that had genital shaped logos.
haha. yeah i can't see the video so i just assumed it was a swastika in plan from the comments

it's just that i haven't updated firefox and don't have the right wmv plugin for it apparently

FYI
There are many more ...
Denver Airport Plan.

I think one of Frank Lloyd Wright's solar house projects also uses that in plan. I'm not sure they were built.
A backwards swastika was the Boy Scout symbol up until WW2.
Those Swastika-shaped study desks seen in many libraries work quite well. A great way to keep for desks private while saving space.
If it works well, do people really care that much?
I am with dot. This thread is silly.
shaefer hotel mountainair new mexico
ok, i confess...i did that building, you caught me and i am so stupid.
i didn't anticipate google earth, guess i'm really fucked when google x-ray starts revealing all that porn i've hidden in cavity walls over the years.
I tend to agree with dot. Reverse of the swastika is the Zen symbol for emptiness. And let's leave the interpretation of symbols to Robert Langdon.
Perhaps we should start a new topic on something like, "don't judge a discussion forum by its topic" hehe.

Some people on this forum are so damn annoying

Why the title? I don't see any architecture. It could be a housing project or hospital built by a developer.
I didnt put the title, just copied
