Im planning to spend six months in new york early 2007 and I have a number of practices that I would really like to gain experience with. This is something that i have wanted to do for a long time but as it is extremely unlikely that I will get paid my priorities have changed. Originally the trip was going to be about living in NY for six months whilst working in any old architecture office. Now the emphasis has shifted towards the job and trying to get an intern position with a practice that i really admire of which there are many in NY.
Am i right in thinking that in order to get a visa that permits me to live in america and hold an unpaid working posiotion then a practice has to vouch for me and start the visa process?
Can anyone clarify this for me as I am finding it extremely difficult to find answers on the internet or through the american embasy.
My wife did the same through an agency called CIEE. You have to get a architecture office to "sponser" youthough, yes. Check out ciee's website, it's pretty clear.
