Evaluating Materials by Energy used in their Production

wxyz

Hey -

I was thinking the other day about something Glen Murcutt said at a lecture - that architects should know, for each of the materials they specify in their building, exactly how many kilojoules of energy are used in its production/extraction/delivery etc., as another criteria for evaluating materials. Does anyone know of resouces for this?

That will be embodied energy. Google is your resource. Any responsable architect should know what impact their design has from a sustainable evaluation. Straw bale houses all-round then.
