Getting around nyc

aesculanus

in Japan there's a website i can access from a computer or cell phone that let's me enter my point of departure and destination in tokyo. i click submit, and a second later a page listing several transit options via train, bus and monorail shoot up, noting schedule times, trip duration, and points of transfer.

Is there nothing like this for nyc?

in ny you can just ask people...people in nyc love exhibiting
their knowledge of the subways different lines.

and unlike japan...there are no set destination times, no
schedules and no certainty as to when things will happen
on there..new york's subway system is as unpredictable as
the weather with all kinds of different delays, construction,
etc. that's what makes it butiful.

i've always liked this site - http://www.hopstop.com

as lars mentioned, the nyc metro can be fairly unpredictable at times, so in general you're always going to have to watch out for signs. and yeah, people are generally very helpful and friendly when it comes to directions (not what you'd expect of new yorkers, eh? :P)

Long as your not asking a Cabbie.....? They always know the longest distance between two points.
