Rookie Question

swamprat

I have a few furniture design ideas brewing in my head and I have been but can not find the right competition to enter them in. I am tight on a budget so i dont want to go ahead and make the pieces before I have something going for them. What should I do?

do the pieces on your own...best way to go. you don't need no stinkin' compy. try to talk someone into giving you a small gallery show or get into a group show or start inviting possible buyers to your place for dinner.

Do you just not have the money for the matierials? Equipment? I would suggest building them on your own if you can. If you cannot at all go it alone find a local independant woodshop or whatever. I've worked with a small town cabinet maker to buy time in his shop and it has worked well when I cannot afford the equipment or space for doing furniture. My own furniture has all been for my own personal use but if you are serious about marketing it I would assume having a finished peice would take you much farther than a design on paper. You could even market on your own by getting a booth at the mall when they have those craft fairs.

If you don't mind me asking what type of furniture are you thinking about building? Table? Desk? Chair?
