Does anyone else think it might be a good idea to have a seperate section containing advice for prospective architecture students (high schoolers, etc)??? A somewhat FAQ / suggestion area???
Some suggestions that I would have for incomming students-
learn Spanish
take business / real estate classes
meet people other than architecture students (aka possible clients)while in school
I like that idea, but I suggested the women's forum and got razzed! :)
The suggestion to take Spanish is excellent. People don't realize that in the field you find yourself having to communicate with the demo crew when the foreman's gone to lunch and or you're trying to get a key to the main electric room from the maintenance crew and they only speak Spanish. Even now I think about taking night classes in Spanish.
i think that's a great idea (spanish understanding is a very regional issue though). i think it's consistent with my plan to begin offering a series of FAQ's.
- how to prepare for architecture school
- how to prepare your portfolio (for school or employment)
- how to structure your resume
- ...
i'm all ears. if anybody would like to begin creating a FAQ, please go ahead and send to me, or post here so we can compile submissions later.
How about resources for summer programs and classes. CUA has an extensive summer architecture program for high school students. I'm sure other universities do too.
Suggestion for Paul

Spanish! that's no good to me. i think incomming students should learn Welsh. Much more practical...
The FAQ would need to be location and job specific. Generalisations would not be helpful.
BOTS,
You're right! I just clicked on your profile and I agree with you. I forget that we're not all from this side of the "pond".
it might even keep the young and earnest from getting slammed too quickly...

I think a FAQ about the IDP process could be helpfull as well. thanks Paul!

YES paul, there should most definitely be a faq for idp. most people have whole lists of questions for idp, and i myself have a few.
