I'm interested in learning a new language and was wondering what people have seen to be in demand. I'm hoping to work in the western states so I feel Spanish or Chinese would be obvious choices but is there demand or opportunities for others? It would personally be more enjoyable to learn a European language but would it be any help?
In our first year of M.Arch we were taking a tour of a local firm, and one of my classmates was offered a job on the spot when they realized that she spoke Mandarin.
However, I suspect that learning a language would mostly be useful if you intend on spending a significant amount of time in that country. Sure you could learn Chinese, but don't be surprised when a firm wants to ship you off to Shanghai.

Like, say, Spanish?
