sure2016

I was considering a move to Boston this fall and have just started researching firms. Can anyone there recommend firms doing good work in Boston? Thanks

jchermely, A good resource for checking out firms is the Boston Society of Architects. Check out their site at www.architects.org They have a list with links to many firms in Mass.

Firm picked to design WPB waterfront

By Pat Beall, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Friday, July 2, 2004

WEST PALM BEACH -- Sir Jane took the day.

Swayed by the global reputation of Jane Thompson -- declared a Finnish Knight for her urban waterfront work -- and the local talent of CH2M Hill, city commissioners tapped the design team to reshape the city's waterfront.

CH2M Hill/Thompson Design Group had trailed Boston-based Sasaki Associates Inc. in rankings compiled by a city-appointed review team.

However, "I felt Ms. Thompson's commitment far surpassed anybody's," said Commissioner Bill Moss, after Thompson pledged to spend 70 percent of her time on the local project.

Thompson is not the only high-profile talent on the design group's team.

Delray Beach artist Michael Singer created a Phoenix garbage dump hailed by The New York Times as "one of the eight most influential projects" of 1993.

Transportation consultant Sam Schwartz is credited with coining the term "gridlock."

etc etc... maybe Thompson Design Group is hiring

i just moved from boston after living there for seven years...

in that time i worked for addinc., payette and charles rose architects...

add inc is a 140 or so person corporate firm...i got laid off there
after working there for three years...most of my friends that worked
there had the same thing happen to them...it becomes a stifling
atmosphere unless you're good at assimilating into a large firm
but if you're into corporate clients the do alright design

payette is about the same size..less social than add..and more
concious of design and their clients..educational and health care
facilities mostly..i.e. money...

cra was my favorite of the three...good architecture..a small firm
in somerville...so it was a cool experience..charlie is a good boss
even though he's hard to work for at times...if you're looking for
a challenge he's good...that and he designs well..
www.charlesrosearchitects.com

kennedy violich, office da, brian healy..all good small firms.

does preston scott cohen work out of harvard?...
i think wellington reiter works out of newton

i had trouble thinking who i wanted to work for after my last job..
so i moved to nyc...

scott cohen is possibly the best designer around boston in my opinion, but i'm not sure how many people he employs.

wellington (duke) reiter is now the dean at ASU architecture and i think he already closed down his office in boston.

thanks javier...i wasn't sure if reiter was still around...i just
remember his name from when i was last looking for a job there...

i had a friend that worked for brian healy..they do nice work...
he stayed there for a while too...brian is a nice guy..and his office
is in an old warehouse building near fort point channel...

moshe safdie is also in cambridge if you're into that sort of thing..
