rhino: _ExtractPt then name it in properties. don't know what you are trying to do. neither of these methods actually name a vertex on the surface. The maya one might be better cause the locator can be tied with history to the surface. Also in maya all vertexes allready have a name that can be found by selecting a vertex. Dont' think you can change that, though.
Thank u, guys. I am trying to minic the descriptive geometry prespective done by Preston Scott Cohen in Rhino. Hope I can do it. Otherwise, it seems there is no way to understand his design and model.

vertex question for Rhino or Maya
I want to name some vertexes in my model, I wonder if Rhino can do it? If not, how about Maya?
maya: select the vertex and make a cluster, or locator that can then be given a name, like Sammy
