Existing building drawings in India

SHR

Hi,
I'm looking for a set of drawings for an existing old building in India for a competition entry. [ Conversion of Existing Architecture for the Living in the City - Central Glass competition]

Does anybody have any access to drawings of an existing building in India. Anything that helps in making a physical model.

Please help!

what exactly do you want. India has lots of different types of buildings, construction techniques, architecture from different periods etc. You have to be specific as to which one you are looking for, the context, the construction etc.

ofcourse ... I'm looking for an un-utilised building in the middle of a city. Pretty much a landmark in the city.

It doesn't have to be of any period. Not a religious structure though.

Well there is this Movie theatre in central Delhi ( of course in New Delhi) which got burned down (partially .. the structure remains the same, most of the damage was internal ) a few years back ( the Uphaar cinema)

It's been embroiled in court battles ever since. saw this Article when I googled.

Dont know who the Architect is ... but the developers/owners are Ansals. but they are very edgy about the topic ( Uphaar tragedy - they refer to it as ..)

how about this? it's a landmark for sure. i think it'll fit your bill perfectly.

i remember one of the schools of architecture in bombay doing a measure drawing of the building about 3 years ago. comprehensive documentation for one of the NASA's. i can ask around if you like, but i think it'll be tough to source their material.

alternatively, organisations like the UDRI (Urban Design Research Institute) or INTACH will probably have documentation lying around. I've seen a drawing of the facade and plan of the building in one of the UDRI booklets...

I'm sorry i can't be of more help right now.

a central prison built in 1886 in bangalore- totally unused now- the site, more than 20 acres in area- heart of the city- a new prison has been built on the outskirts- a govt proposal to bring some sort of use to this space. its a landmark for sure.

^ this project was announced as a competition project 3 years back. mathew and gosh architects won. i'm not sure if you are looking for these kind of projects, but you'll get all the drawings of the existing structures very easily. easily because, i remember more than 80 firms took part in the competition and i've got a few drawings myself. let me know if you want more information regarding this or more similiar ones.

Ticker.. thats a fabulous building, but I realise that the procedure of getting to documentation might be tough.

Chameleon, I'd love to get my hands on the dwgs. for the prison. I think it would suit the idea of the competition.

By the ways, isn't any one else doing this competition?
